Tips & Schedules for Learning While Remote Schooling

  • Give yourself grace. Remember that younger children have trouble focusing for more than 10-15 minutes and that a lot of breaks and movement are essential.
  • Use the enrichment information that the district is providing. If you have questions, ask your student/s teachers for assistance. They are more than happy to assist you!
  • Talk with your children about their interests and encourage them to write or journal during this unique time. This is an excellent emotional outlet as well as being a good writing activity.
  • Read together and encourage your kids to read independently and then tell you about what they’ve read.
  • Write about what they are reading. This is a great way to help students develop deeper connections and allows them to reflect and express their thoughts.
  • Limit screen time and encourage physical activity.
  • Teach the kids “real life” skills during this extended break. This is a perfect opportunity to teach them about cooking, laundry, and other household responsibilities.
  • Learn together. There are things you’ve learned in school and have forgotten. Re-learn about things that interest you and your child—and don’t feel pressured to know how to teach everything to your child.
  • Create a realistic schedule for learning. Here is an example for you to work from. Find a balance that works best for you and your student/s.
