Baseball and HS track practice start tomorrow at 4pm at Stewartsville.

There will be NO SCHOOL tomorrow, Wednesday, February 17th. This is due to concerns of busses continuing to have gelling problems in the morning. Our transportation provider has worked feverishly today to get our busses up and running. Still, due to the unprecedented low temperatures over the past 4 days, we continue to have concern for students' safe transport in the morning.

Stewartsville C2 students benefit every day from the leadership and vision of our school board members. February 15-19 is Missouri School Board Recognition Week, so please take time to thank these dedicated school leaders. School board members devote hours of their time each week to provide leadership for our school district! #TheNest #CardinalVictory

Greetings Cardinals,
I want to thank all of our bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria staff, office staff, teachers, and students for a great week of school. Even though the week was shortened due to weather, it was a great week in part because it was the first time since August 25 that we have had no one quarantined due to COVID-19! #CardinalVictory
Undoubtedly, it has also been a week of frigid temperatures, and it appears that we have yet to see the most frigid. Over the next four days, we are expecting to see record-breaking and dangerously low temperatures. Therefore, I want to let you know that we will be extending the Presidents Day weekend through Tuesday, February 16. I understand that some may feel that this is a premature decision, but I want everyone to have plenty of notice to plan for their families' safety and not worry about what-ifs.
Please stay safe, and we will see you all back at The Nest on Wednesday, February 17.

Good evening,
We are excited to inform you that our district will be receiving our new staff computers and classroom SmartBoards this coming Friday, October 16, 2020. To complete the installation and training process by the time students return to The Nest on Tuesday, October 20, we will be using an early release on Friday. Students will be released on Friday, October 16, at 12:30 pm with busses running their regular afternoon routes. We thank you for your cooperation, and please plan accordingly.

On behalf of the DeKalb County School Districts (Union Star R-2, Osborn R-0, Stewartsville C-2, and Maysville R-1 ), we want to thank our County Commission made up of 3 fantastic gentlemen, Presiding Commissioner: Kyle Carroll, West District Commissioner: Kyle White, and East District Commissioner: Gary McFee for their continuous support of our school communities and the county as a whole. Their willingness to work for the betterment of our students, staff, and teachers is allowing us the ability to utilize county CARES ACT funds to make substantial improvements to our facilities, upgrade outdated technology, and secure needed supplies to help each of us with our COVID-19 mitigation plans.

Cardinals,
We value each and every one of our families, and we want to continue to make our facilities available to you and your students. However, we ask that you have a conversation with your children about leaving the facilities better than they found them. We believe our recent issue on the softball field was an innocent incident. Even so, it still hurts the district's ability to provide the very best for our students.
Thank you
Mr. Stephenson

Along with the listed items, we have been working on a comprehensive reopening plan. The plan was designed based on the following three pillars.
1. Preparing for the safe return to school for all of our Cardinals.
2. Providing our students with engaging educational opportunities.
3. Promoting open lines of communication between all Cardinals.

2. There will be a designated seating area for Stewartsville School faculty and staff on the football field.
3. The main parking lot and circle drive will be limited to parking for graduates, graduate family members who are sitting on the field, and for district faculty and staff members.
4. Additional guests are welcome to attend the ceremony but will need to sit on the asphalt road on the west side of the field and park on the northside of the building or adjacent side streets. (The road will be blocked off the same as it is for a home football game.)
5. Graduates will need to meet in the school lobby at 11:30 am to prepare for the ceremony. Family members will not be allowed to enter the building. Graduates will enter the field from the southeast corner to begin the ceremony at noon.

Cardinal community,
Even though the COVID-19 pandemic has physically taken us out of the school building, we, as teachers, are using this "extra" time to prepare for the upcoming year. When reflecting on how we encourage students to read, we believe our Scholastic Book a Month program played a significant role in helping them to read beyond the school walls. The enthusiasm that we witnessed in the eyes of our students in Prek - 6th grade was incredible. They were so excited to have a book of their own to add to their home library. We would love to have your help and make the program an even more significant success moving into the 2020-2021 school year. We are asking for your support in helping us by donating $20 to sponsor a student for a year's worth of books. Donations are due by July 10th and can be dropped off at school or mailed. Good evening Cardinal Families,
School will be in session at “The Nest” on Wednesday, February 5, 2020.
We understand the excitement that is surrounding Kansas City’s Chiefs first Super Bowl parade in 50 years. However, the Stewartsville C2 School District will be open (weather permitting) when the Chiefs hold their celebratory parade tomorrow.
We have made our decision based on what is best for our families as a whole. It is never our intention to create unnecessary stress on families who may lack the work flexibility or child-care availability, except when student and staff safety is of concern.
Thank you for your understanding and patience, and Go Chiefs!
Michael Stephenson
Superintendent

The Stewartsville C2 Board of Education approved the naming of the school's basketball court after Gene Saunders on Monday, January 27, 2020, during their monthly board meeting. The special dedication ceremony will take place on February 7, 2020, between the varsity girls and boys basketball games vs. Osborn. Gene, better known within "The Nest" as Super Gene, has devoted the past 50+ years of his life as a student, student-athlete, parent, community member, and employee to the Stewartsville C2 School District. Gene has announced his intention to retire at the end of June 2020. A "Gene Saunders Court" logo will be temporarily adhered to the floor until a more permanent one can be affixed at a later date.

Happy New Year Cardinals,
It is crazy to think we are now 20 years into the 21st century, but even crazier; we are about to begin the 2nd semester of the 2019-2020 school year. As we return to #TheNest, let’s remember the amazing opportunities we have presented to us daily. We have opportunities to engage in each other’s lives positively, to impact those around us academically, socially, and emotionally. Finally, we have opportunities to decide how we are going to work through trials and tribulations. Interestingly though opportunity by itself does not guarantee success, it only guarantees opportunity. My challenge for each of us as we return to “The Nest” is to seize on our opportunities with 2020 vision and continue to have a mindset that says “Yes I can,” and be prepared to push ourselves to be the best we can be not only for ourselves but most importantly our students. #TheCardinalWay #CardinalVictory
Mr. Stephenson

Music Program Reminder: Elementary students need to report to their classrooms to line up for the program at 6:15 pm tonight. The K-6 music program begins at 6:30 pm.

We also want to thank Coach Fish for being a exemplary role model and mentor to this group of young men! #TheNest #TheCardinalWay #CardinalVictory 💯🏈👍

November 13, 2019
Dear Cardinal Families,
As we approach the winter months, we have begun planning for inclement weather. Almost every year, Stewartsville experiences a few days of very cold, icy, or snowy weather that necessitate closing or delaying school. Hopefully, we have a mild winter, but if not, we want you to be prepared ahead of time.
How do we decide to close school?
The decision to delay or close school is a careful decision informed by several factors, including temperature and wind chill, levels of snow and ice, road conditions, and how these conditions are forecast to develop over the day. A decision will be made the night before; however, this might not always be possible in such cases, the decision will be made between 5:00–6:00 a.m. the morning of the delay or closure. If school is canceled, all afterschool activates will also be canceled.
How is the public notified of school closings?
The best source of information is the Stewartsville C2 social media accounts: Twitter (@stewartsvilleC2), Facebook (@StewartsvilleMO), and our school webpage (https://www.stewartsville.k12.mo.us/). Information will also be shared using our text blast and voice call notification systems.
What does a 2-hour delay mean?
A delay causes schools to open two hours later than the normal start time (10:00 a.m.). The school will close at the regular time (3:10 p.m.). The school will not be open for students to enter until (9:15 a.m.). The buses will run normal routes on a two hour delay. Any before-school programs/practices/activities will be canceled. A limited breakfast will be served (cold cereal and milk) on 2-hour delay days. When the opening of school has been delayed due to weather, afterschool programs will operate as scheduled. (Preschool will not be in session on days we utilize a late start.)
What if inclement weather develops during the school day?
We open with the intent of remaining open for the full school day. Early dismissals are used only in extreme situations. In such cases, all afterschool activities will be canceled. If we need to close early, students will still be served lunch before dismissal.
When will school be made up?
State law requires us to have a minimum of 1044 hours of school per school year. Our 2019-2020 school calendar has been built with the intention of students attending school for a total of 1112 hours. What this means is in the case of a canceled day of school, late start, or early dismissal, we will not need to make up any time until we miss a total 68 hours or 10 days' worth of time. If we end up needing to make up hours/days, we will adjust the calendar as follows
• If we have to make up no more than a 1/2 day, May 20 will become a full day of school.
• If we have to make up no more than 1 ½ days, May 20 and May 21 will become full days of school. *The Professional Development day for teachers will not be rescheduled.
• If we have to make up no more than 2 ½ days, May 20, May 21, and May 22 will become full days of school. *The Professional Development day for teachers will not be rescheduled.
Sincerely,
Michael L. Stephenson
Superintendent

School Notification System TEST:
November, 13th @ 7:00pm
Over the past month, we have been working on updating our school text blast and our voice call notification system. We will be testing the system this evening at 7:00 p.m. If you do not receive the text message and/or the voice call, please contact the school tomorrow and provide us your contact information. We will then cross-reference your current contact information with the information we have in the system to find the issue. The text blast will come from 98901 and will read From#TheNest: followed by the message. The phone call will come from the school’s main phone line, 816-669-3258. When answering the call, you must speak into the phone for the messaging system to be activated.
